Queen's Award for Voluntary Service

Debbie and two trustees of the Centre, Richard and Tracy, were privileged to go to a reception at Bearwood College on Friday 2nd March 2010 for the Berkshire charities nominated for the prestigious Queen's Award for Voluntary Service. At the reception each charity nominated for this year's award was given a gold framed certificate of achievement. The overall winners will be announced at the beginning of June and will be chosen from a large number of voluntary bodies nationwide. The award is the equivalent of an MBE for a voluntary group.
Of course, not everyone can be a winner, but at the reception, it was made clear how much the contribution of the voluntary services is valued.

Third time lucky!!

The Adult Dyslexia Centre (Thames Valley) has been awarded a grant of £10,900 from the Learning Skills Council (LSC) to provide intensive group teaching and 1 to 1 tuition to 12 disadvantaged unemployed clients who have considerable barriers to progressing in employment or education. The project will start in September 2009 and run for one year. The clients will be drawn from the Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead, Bracknell, Wokingham and Reading area.

The Adult Dyslexia Centre (ADC) is based in Maidenhead but operates throughout Berkshire and encompasses the whole Thames Valley. They have recently been delivering a series of dyslexia awareness training sessions, sponsored by the BNLCP, for neighbourhood learning centre and community learning staff. This is the third bid submitted by the ADC with the support of Bruce Wright, the BNLCP funding consultant and it was third time lucky. But as we know, the better you prepare, the luckier you become.

Awards for ADC!

Adult Dyslexia Centre has also been successful with its own bid for Awards for All funding. We have been given £2,700 to extend our mentoring programme over the coming year.

Well done to all those involved in the bid writing.

Matrix Standard, January 2009
