Debbie Farnfield, centre Manager, has been given an award for Lifelong
Outstanding Achievement for Services to dyslexic individuals - voluntary
sector by the British Dyslexia Association.
Adult Dyslexia Centre has been successful in bidding for £2700
from the Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived Communities (NLDC) fund.
This will allow us to continue to provide our FREE dyslexia screening
and information and advice service for unemployed adults.
In 2011 we were given funding by RBWM (£200) and the Louis Baylis
Trust (£500). Many thanks to them for their continued support.
We have also teamed up with RBWM who are helping to fund our course
for Parents of Dyslexic Children
and a basic IT class for unemployed adults.
During October 2011 the Maidenhead branch of Waitrose is supporting
us as one of their Community Matters charities.
PLEASE put your green tokens in our box at the store.
Due to increase in demand we have increased our team of qualified assessors to 5 and can now provide assessments for CHILDREN as well as adults.
The Maidenhead Boundary Walk is organised annually by the Rotary Club of Maidenhead and enables individuals to raise money for their own charity. This year's walk is to be held on Sunday 2nd October. It is a 13 mile walk around the boundary of the town. Members of the Adult Dyslexia Centre have completed the walk for the past 2 years and this year are entering a larger team with a target of raising over £2000. This type of fundraising has become more important to the Centre because there is less money available from government funds and charitable trusts. To support our walkers or join in the fundraising you can find our charity page at Virgin Money Giving:

Debbie and two trustees of the Centre, Richard and Tracy, were privileged to go to a reception at Bearwood College on Friday 2nd March 2010 for the Berkshire charities nominated for the prestigious Queen's Award for Voluntary Service. At the reception each charity nominated for this year's award was given a gold framed certificate of achievement. The overall winners will be announced at the beginning of June and will be chosen from a large number of voluntary bodies nationwide. The award is the equivalent of an MBE for a voluntary group.
Of course, not everyone can be a winner, but at the reception, it was made clear how much the contribution of the voluntary services is valued.
